Stephen is the son of a man from Riobamba and a woman from Champaign, who’ve been separated and sober since before he was born. A two-time DreamYard Project Rad(ical) Poetry Consortium fellow, he has poetry published or forthcoming in Champaign's News Gazette, the Oakland Arts Review, and No Tender Fences: An Anthology of Immigrant and First Generation American Poets. He received a BA in Creative Writing from Warren Wilson College, where his poetry thesis won the department's Levis Prize. The collection in progress, Patchwork Ode to My Distant Homes, questions what it means to belong to a community and to its gentrifiers and what it means to let readers into that world. It also revels in good food. He would love to know your favorite childhood TV show.
